Hungary 10,000 Ft. 2021. International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest. Silver Proof

After 83 years, Hungary once again hosted the International Eucharistic Congress from September 5-12, 2021. This global Catholic gathering has been held since 1881. The week long series of events with numerous presentations, Holy Masses, concerts and testimonials was open to all.
Hungary first hosted the Congress in 1938. Due to the pandemic, it was postponed from 2020 to this year, when more than 60 speakers from almost 40 countries spanning 5 continents came to Budapest.
The front of each bears the symbol of this global event, a detail of the Mission Cross adapted to the coin. This cross is not only a unique piece of craftsmanship recalling the motives of Hungarian history, but also a reliquary. In a silver holder in the center of the cross is a relic of the Holy Cross, and around it embedded in the leaves are relics of Hungarian and Hungarian-related saints.
The central design on back is a depiction of a monstrance (vessel for displaying the sacrament), which was designed expressly for the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress. The rays running from the monstrance towards the edge of coin symbolize the emanating light. A group of statues from Heroes’ Square in Budapest is in the background.
