Bermuda

1964bermudacrown.jpg Bermuda. 1 Crown 1964. Uncirculated $15.75

This is the last silver crown issued in 1964 by the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda before it converted to the decimal system in 1970. It is one of the most popular coins we have sold over the years, with a mintage of 470,000. The 36 mm coin, shown actual size here, contains 22.62 grams of .500 fine silver or just over 1/3 ounce. The young portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is by George Kruger-Gray. The reverse has Bermuda’s coat of arms of a lion holding a shield which shows the ship sailed by the Spanish navigator Juan de Bermudez when he discovered the island in around 1503.
