One of the greatest boxers of all time was born on March 25, 1926 in Budapest. László Papp was the first three-time Olympic champion in the history of the sport, winning gold at London in 1948, Helsinki in 1952 and Melbourne in 1956. He also was European champion twice, in 1949 and 1951. During his career as an amateur he won 55 fights by knock-out in the first round, and he won the European championship as a professional boxer as well. After retiring, he worked as a trainer and was the head of the national boxing association several times, continuing to be a defining figure for Hungarian boxing for many generations. His life work stands out as a shining example of talent, discipline and tenacity.
Papp’s portrait is self-explanatory. The back shows the corner of a boxing ring with László Papp, born 100 years ago inscribed between the ropes.
