Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, Miskolc
“Hungarian Counties and County Seats”
The county is situated in the north-eastern part of Hungary. The county seat – Miskolc – and the Sajó Valley were for a long time the stronghold of Hungarian heavy industry, most of which has now ceased operating. Tourism can play a major part in the transformation of the economic structure. The county is home to two world heritage sites: the historical wine-growing region of Tokaj (seen on the reverse), and the caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst. (Source europa.eu)
The obverse shows the belfry of the Gothic Protestant Church on the Avas Hill, Miskolc, Hungary. The belfry is the new symbol of the city, however, the old symbol (the TV tower) is more widely known.
